Scott Shawyer (Be Water Positive), 22th

Arriving on Thursday 13th June at 19 20 hrs (french time), Scott Shawyer completed the second edition of the New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne in 22nd position after 14 days, 23 hours and 20 minutes of racing. The skipper of Be Water Positive, who had to contend with problems with his autopilot during his crossing, can be satisfied with having completed his adventure and thus taken his revenge after his abandon in the Rolex Fastnet Race and then his abandon in last year's Transat Jacques Vabre.

He said

"The race was long and it was fantastic quite an adventure, we went all over the Atlantic and the weather was quite absurd, it was upside down. It was very light in spots, little patches of wind, sometimes I was sailing and I would hit a light patch and everyone around me would keep going.
It was a real test of patience. I am very, very happy. We broke something in the Fastnet and in the TJV I was pretty sick and so this race is really good for me. I had worked hard before I had done a lot testing different things and training beforehand, but I think I have a lot of things dialled in now. The autopilot was playing up for a while, just with a mismatch of settings and I had one situation one night in pretty big breeze when I went right over. There was such a great ending to the race with us all lined up waiting for the front to come through, like surfers all waiting for a big wave. It was a lot of fun. Now I have a period of time off, seeing my family, eating good food, getting some sleep and putting some weight back on."
