Szabolcs Weöres (New Europe), 25th

This Thursday evening at 21h 13min, the Hungarian skipper Szabolcs Weöres crossed the finish line of the New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne in 25th position, after 15d 01h 13min of racing. It was a long Atlantic crossing that 'Szabi' described as challenging, but which enabled him to gather some valuable experience with a view to the Vendée Globe. As a nod to the race's stated goal of internationalisation, the skipper chatted in mid-Atlantic on the VHF with Kojiro, the Japanese skipper!

"Every mile is a learning curve for me, I am still learning. I think it was special, it was special for everyone, everyone was fighting with the weather, with the anticyclone and then tactically it was quite a hard race. I was not the luckiest one, I was the one who was caught up from behind by other boats. Next time the race will be different tactically but I really enjoyed this race. Before the Vendée Globe these races are important to me as I am quite new to singlehanded racing so for me each mile is something new to learn. This was my third solo Transat and it was the longest, it was very light airs, it was very tactical and lots of changes and it was a hard one. I had to adapt constantly, it was very hard to find any kind of rhythm at all."
