"Two transatlantic races in seven weeks isn't bad in terms of preparation for the Vendée Globe! We can't do any better! We're happy and we're doubly happy because it's here, in Les Sables d'Olonne, that the project and the team are based. Going up the channel is symbolic. It was the first time for me today because I missed the opportunity during the Vendée Arctique when I abandoned. I'm looking forward to next year, in February, when we'll be there with even more people, lots of boats and lots of friends from Belgium!
This type of transatlantic race forces you to take it all in. I've almost touched on the notion of patience and that's not bad for me, at 56! We all know that this kind of solo exercise is never a smooth ride. I think it was good for all of us. We thought it would take us eight days to sail from New York to Les Sables d'Olonne. It was proof once again that nothing ever goes according to plan. In ocean racing, there are always things to learn. It's often back to square one with humility and that's always good for everyone."
