Benjamin Dutreux (GUYOT environnement – Water Family), 13th

This Thursday 13th June at 07h59, Benjamin Dutreux crossed the finish line of the second edition of the New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne after 14 days 11 hours and 59 minutes of racing. The skipper of GUYOT environnement - Water Family, who had to pay a three-hour penalty after stealing the start, was relentless throughout the race. Trapped in the anticyclone, like many of his rivals, the sailor from Les Sables d'Olonne finally finished in 13th place, but drew some valuable lessons from his transatlantic race with a view to the Vendée Globe, and in particular validated his choice of a new closed cockpit.

« This transatlantic race has been strategic and tactical. In the end, I'm quite happy, because upwind sailing and light winds are not conditions that my boat loves, but she nevertheless did very well and that's a good point. The fact that I spent so much time on board before the Vendée Globe is great. Psychologically, when you don't expect it to last that long, you have to find the resources to move forward. When plan A doesn't work, you have to move on to plan B, then plan C, then the next one. It builds your mental strength, even though I have to admit that I've lost it on more than one occasion when I got stuck without really knowing why.

I thought it was cool that Boris (Herrmann) put on a bit of a show by going on a little expedition to the North Pole. It added a bit of excitement. It promises to be a great Vendée Globe! »
