Eric Bellion (Sand as One), 17th

At 15h50 on Thursday 13th June, Éric Bellion completed the race from New York Vendée to Les Sables after 14 days 19 hours and 50 minutes of racing. His 17th place is inevitably a bit disappointing, but the sailor claims to have savoured every moment spent at sea, even in the unstable conditions at the start, where everyone will remember the impressive image of his boat caught in a waterspout.

"This transatlantic race was strange but I really enjoyed it. I've learnt a lot and I'm really happy. I had a lot of fun. I didn't take part in the two transatlantic races last year, so I'm still discovering my boat. I was there for this New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne to get the ball rolling a bit. Every time I set off on a race, I try to do my best. This time, we all suffered a bit. We were in positions where we didn't have many solutions. Each time, we took the best solution available to us. The big choice was not to go around the anticyclone and stay in contact with the others. We were in a kingdom of uncertainties. We couldn't rely on our weather charts, they were all wrong. We had to adapt. The funniest thing was on the first evening, when we went to the start line. The files showed a northerly wind when it was actually a southerly wind. That set the tone because after that, everything went a bit like that."
