Justine Mettraux (TeamWork – Team Snef), 8th

Having opted for a route going south of the Azores, just like Samantha Davies and Yoann Richomme with whom she sailed in close contact for a long time before falling slightly behind at the entrance to the Bay of Biscay, Justine Mettraux completed the 3,200 miles of the second edition of the New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne on Tuesday 11th June at 12hrs 56mins. The skipper of TeamWork - Team Snef finished 8th in the race after 12 days, 16 hours and 56 minutes.

"This was my first time entering the harbour alone on an IMOCA. The locals have turned up so it was nice to see everyone here. It gets me prepared for the start of the Vendée in November.

This race was testing, longer than we imagined. We had thought 9 days at the start, but it took 13. It meant more days of training with a wide variety of conditions. It was interesting learning more about the boat ahead of the Vendée Globe.

We weren’t that far behind, but we found ourselves in different conditions. There were other moments when people got stuck in this race and saw others come up from behind. It’s what happens in this sort of race. It’s part of the game.

Since we had the boat, I think I’ve always finished around eighth so I am consistent. It’s encouraging for what lies ahead. I found my feet aboard the boat. Losing power aboard is something we fear. It wasn’t the easiest thing, but you can expect incidents like that at sea. I thought I would have more time to rest before the Bol d’Or. That event is going to be shorter than the transatlantic race."
